Business Building Blocks

So... my birthday came and went and nothing much has been going on. I went down to Groton, CT for my birthday with a work business trip. Nothing special happened as all I did was go to Olive Garden with the guys from the trip. I talked to various people on the phone and on Facebook, but otherwise... it was just a regular Wednesday. Gone are the days when your birthday means something really special, as now I have officially turned 24 and become fully engrossed in my adult life.

Since then, the biggest thing that has happened was my trip to Los Angeles for Business Building Blocks! BBB is an event put on  by Cydcor for all Assistant Managers (of at least 2 months) and rookie owners. Mike and I flew out on Wednesday to LA and stayed  at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel, where the actual conference was being held. We had a total of 9 people from our PMG organization represented at the conference, so it was really good to spend time with other people in my position.

The premise of the conference was to discuss some of the basics about opening up your own ICL, which everyone at the conference expects to do in the coming months. We talked to various consultants, promoting owners, and people from Cydcor about some of the best practices of running your own ICL. It was extremely informative, especially because we all are hoping to open very soon. The first day was an entire day dedicated to Franklin Covey training, which is based on time management and scheduling. We learned how to use our new planners and materials. That night (Thursday), a few of us went out to Long Beach City and hung out at a club. On Friday, we went to the Cydcor offices and talked about many of the intricacies of opening an office from recruiting to becoming incorporated. The main point was the meet people like the COO of Cydcor, Vera Quinn, to having an hour talk given by Executive Consultant, John Wiggins. Everything was really informative, even if some of the information was dry. That night, we went out to dinner at Kravings in Thousand Oaks. Afterwards, we hung out at the hotel. On Saturday, we had more training given by the consultants that were present. We discussed administrators and recruiting. That night, a group of us went out to Venice to hang out at a club/bar. Mike and I flew out on early Sunday morning. All in all, it was an amazing time and probably the best 3 consecutive days that I have had in the program.

I'm really excited about the people that I met and the relationships that I forged. The highlight of the trip, outside of the people and work, was the fact that I was awarded co-champion of the BBB dance-off on Saturday morning. Jinu Park, from the OC, and I were given a draw in our dance off before the morning session. Im just honored that something I did will be rememebred as a definite memory for everyone that was present. There are many big things happening with some very significant changes coming down the pipeline, so I just have to be ready for them. My head is on straight right now, so we shall see what happens next!
